We would like to acknowledge that this presentation is being delivered from London Ontario, which is situated on the traditional territories of the Original Peoples of Turtle Island including the Anishinaabek, Haudenosaunee, and Lūnaapéewak peoples. We pay respect to the land and to Elders past, present and future.
We, as settlers on these lands, acknowledge and give respect to all indigenous nations coast to coast who have been telling stories here long before us.
WE recognize that our ancestors came to this land through government-sponsored colonization. Although we cannot change the past, we can control our future. We encourage each of you to learn more about the ancestral lands and history of the First Nations Peoples where you live and work.

A Letter from the Director
Normally in Director's Notes, I would talk about my vision for the show you are about to see and why I chose to direct it. And I will for the most part, but please forgive me if I get a little mushy off script for this one…
In 2015, I decided to try my hand at directing for the first time and submitted an application for the King’s Players (KP) musical. Once Spelling Bee was confirmed as the KP musical for 2016, I asked my new friend Christine Gruenbauer to be a part of the team; her knowledge of theatre, organizational wizardry, and headstrong attitude made her the perfect Stage Manager / Producer combo. After hearing the musical talents of Ben Leibovitz in the pit band of a production of Into the Woods a year earlier and hearing nothing but praise of his musical genius, I knew he would make a fantastic Band Director. And once we started rehearsals with the band, I met Regine Li: a sharp keyboard player with great attention to detail and even greater kindness. These 3 talented people became my partners in crime for the next 10 years.
From our first Bee to this final one, my visions for the characters have changed and I am able to use my evolved understanding of the show to tell this story with more intent. But the heart of the show never changed for Christine, Regine, Ben and myself. It is a show about characters of varying personalities, talents, perspectives, all coming together for one main reason: doing what they love most. Working together with these 3 people in addition to the dozens of members of our casts, crews, and bands over the years has been what I've loved doing most.
Thank you to everyone who has ever auditioned for an Allswell show for gifting us your time and talent. Thank you to everyone who trusted us as a team to give us 3 to 4 months of your year to put something special on stage. Thank you to our friends, families, and loved ones who gave us endless amounts of patience, love, and support. Thank you to everyone involved in this incredibly special production for letting us play as a team one more time. And of course, thank you to Christine, Ben, and Regine. For everything.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was a “very very very nice beginning”. And the perfect finale.

When we first did Spelling Bee nine years ago with Kings Players, the reed book was split across three musicians. Rae Cunningham was our clarinetist. It was our first time playing a show with Rae, and for some of us, it was our first time meeting our Rae of Sunshine. We quickly learned how Rae's vibrant personality and quick wit were a perfect match for this show. Rae sadly passed away in 2019, but their spirit endures, and we're so pleased for Jenni to be playing this show with Rae's clarinet so their music can live on. The Putnam County High School Concert Band proudly dedicates this run in Rae's memory.
